AJ DeGrasse

A musician's musician with a uniquely forged style inheriting elements from Ray Charles to Bruce Hornsby, AJ DeGRASSE is equally independent as a vocalist, songwriter and band leader. His full timbres and wide range cuff and clench listeners, then seduce and soothe. The pain in his rasp earns trust while lyrics boldly claim elusives like love or even hope. Still his clever word-pictures will convey deep loss and the universal dillemas of humanity -- the real stuff of our lives.

AJ performs primarily via the piano or the classic Fender Rhodes, and periodically features a talented supporting cast, who weave in and through with measured skill yet fiery emotion. His performances are known for their palpable authenticity, volatile improvisation, and collaborative surprises; audiences consistently report having been drawn in very near to something truly special and uncommon. Here is a rare artist with the inborn ability to captivate and win any crowd in any room, anytime.

And folks are beginning to take notice. In March, AJ was dubbed "Best Male" and "Best Live Male Performer" at the 2007 Orange County Music Awards.

AJ cut his teeth in the 1990s growing up in the church music and local performer scenes of San Diego, appearing with various groups at such venues as The Belly Up Tavern (Solana Beach), Java Joe's Coffee (now LeStat's in San Diego), and 4th & B (downtown). He earned his bachelor's degree in music composition while a record-setting closing pitcher for the NCAA Division III baseball team at UC San Diego (La Jolla, CA).

After years touring and music-directing for other bands & projects, in 2006 AJ came into his own at last, and embarked on a brand new trail as a solo-artist.
